At Newport

Description

In July 2022, folk legend Joni Mitchell returned to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival, after 20 years away and 54 years after her first appearance there! Joined by country star Brandi Carlile, she delivered a never-before-seen performance of her greatest hits. This live performance can be found on her new album, 'At Newport'. Joni Mitchell has largely withdrawn from music since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015. In 2022, she made a rare public appearance at the Grammy Awards, where she was honored as the 2022 MusiCares Person of the Year and received a trophy for Best Historical Album for her retrospective album, 'Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol 1 : The Early Years (1963-1967)'. In Newport, Joni Mitchell performed, fittingly, seated on a throne. Throughout the evening, Brandi Carlile, Marcus Mumford, Wynonna Judd, Lucius, Blake Mills, Taylor Goldsmith and others took turns performing their favorite Joni Mitchell songs. The Canadian folk singer herself sang several times, notably on "A Case of You" and "Just Like This Train". She also played a guitar solo during "Just Like This Train".
