After Hollywood Africans, a tribute to Jean Michel Basquiat released in 2018, Jon Batiste returns with a beautiful live album recorded during his residency at the iconic New York jazz club Village Vanguard.
The album includes original compositions as well as covers. The music is primarily instrumental, but it also features tracks such as "The Very Thought of You" with Rachel Price of Lake Street Dive on vocals. The liner notes for the album were written by American composer Jaron Lanier. Jon Batiste has worked with many artists in diverse genres (Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, and Mavis Staples), and he is the musical director for the American show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
