Johnny Hodges is a master of the alto saxophone. Honorary member of Duke Ellington's big band from 1928 to 1970, the delicacy of his phrasing and his incomparable sense of improvisation make him one of the most remarkable musicians in the entire history of jazz. In this unreleased live recording from 1961, he performs the great classics of the Ellington repertoire, of which he embodies the incandescent grace forever.
The Live in Paris collection, directed by Michel Brillié, allows you to rediscover unreleased recordings (concerts, private or radio sessions) from the great stars of jazz, rock & roll, and 20th-century chanson. These live recordings, and the relationship with the audience, bring an added soul and a sensitivity in contrast to the rigor applied during studio recordings. Special attention has been given to the sound restoration of the tapes, to meet CD standards while preserving the period color.
