"Summon The Heroes" is an album by the legendary composer John Williams, performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra. This album, which includes works by Williams, Leo Arnaud, Carl Orff, Leonard Bernstein, Dmitri Shostakovich, and others, certainly ranks among the Baron, founder of the modern Olympic Games, his "opportunities for beauty." Some of the works come from the Games themselves - "Towards a New Life" by Josef Suk indeed won a silver medal at the 1932 Olympic Games for musical composition - while others stem from what could loosely be called the "show" inspired by the Games. Many fit well into the fanfare style that characterizes the opening ceremonies; others capture the solemnity of the occasion, culminating with the Olympic oath. Taken together, they provide a splendid soundtrack not only for the centenary of the modern Olympic Games but for all the drama of the Olympic phenomenon.
