This new recording brings to a close the cycle of symphonies by Finnish composer Leevi Madetoja (1887-1947), on Ondine. The program includes Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3, and an orchestral suite from the Asian-influenced ballet-pantomime Okon Fuoko. Symphony No. 1 (1916) reflects the influence of Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, and Symphony No. 3 had its genesis in France, where the composer traveled in the summer of 1925, a subtle and nuanced work. Symphony No. 1 was released in January 2013.
