John Mulaney And The Sack Lunch Bunch

Description

With John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch, a television special released on December 24, 2019, on Netflix, Emmy Award-winning comedian John Mulaney wants to bring back the magic of a bygone era of television where kids sang songs expressing their feelings with celebrities on funky outdoor sets. With this physical edition of the soundtrack, it's a little bit like Christmas every day! A special sticker is affixed to the cover of the LP edition, allowing children of all ages to enjoy it! Who are John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch and what is it all about? John Mulaney is a 6'0" comedian with many credits and two awards. He was born on a humid August night in 1982. The Sack Lunch Bunch is a group of children aged 8 to 13, born after the turn of the 21st century, and they are all unique human beings who have far more talent than Mr. Mulaney. With brilliant musical chameleon and Emmy-nominated composer Eli Bolin, Mr. Mulaney and co-writer Marika Sawyer wrote a few songs and were then joined by guests like David Byrne, Tony Award winner André De Shields, Annaleigh Ashford, Shereen Pimentel, and Jake Gyllenhaal from the movie Zodiac! There are undoubtedly hits like "Grandma's Boyfriend Paul," inspired by the piano-pop of Carole King's "Really Rosie." "Plain Plate of Noodles" may be a child's existential complaint, but you can still dance to its Three Dog Night-inspired funk. "I Saw a White Lady Standing on the Street Just Sobbing (and I Think About It Once a Week)" is a daydream composed of rich Laura Nyro-esque major 7th chords layered with warm flugelhorn that seems to whisper Burt Bacharach's name. Calypso, New Orleans jazz, and even Alan Parsons' Project's "Eye in the Sky" form the DNA of other Sack Lunch songs. David Byrne lent us his time, his voice, and his whole soul for "Pay Attention." An album for adults and children that will transport you somewhere familiar, perhaps to a time when you were younger, when you had no control over your schedule, when you lived in fear of tarantulas, but sometimes had the opportunity to rock out to loud pianos and horns.
