Blues Breakers

Description

The revolutionary 1966 Decca album - John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton - has been reissued, faithfully reproducing the original mono version from Decca Records UK in 1966 and pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl. Hailing from Macclesfield in Cheshire and having grown up in Cheadle Hulme, John Mayall had already made a name for himself on the Manchester blues scene before moving to London in 1963 at the request of Alexis Korner. Eric Clapton joined Mayall from the Yardbirds, disenchanted with the pop direction the band was taking, far from his beloved blues. As a result, Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton became a cornerstone of the mid-60s blues-rock scene, starting with its iconic cover (a disinterested Clapton reading the comic The Beano); it was a heartfelt tribute to the music that inspired so many musicians, creating a heavy and warm brew; an undeniably English version of an American form. It also represented a breakthrough in the charts - reaching 6th place in July 1966.
