The battle continues to rage over who, between Lennon and McCartney, was the most rock 'n' roll. Outdated, this controversy is as ridiculous as those who perpetuate it. Both adored the same music, and John Lennon proved it in his own way in 1975 by releasing this compilation of 50's tracks in tribute to his idols, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Ben E. King, and Buddy Holly. Like "Let It Be," which fell victim last year to a thorough de-Spectorization orchestrated by Paul McCartney, "Rock'n'roll" is being reissued today, but Yoko Ono, responsible for managing the back catalog of her late husband, heavily insists that the record was indeed produced by John and not by Spector, who was only in charge of three tracks. In addition to the thirteen original songs, this 2004 "Rock'n'roll" offers four previously unreleased alternative tracks (two unmixed and one different version) directly from Menlove Avenue. The album has undergone a complete remix and remastering, and sounds exactly like many current bands dream of sounding, who know full well that rock is primarily about energy but forget that no tree can hide the absence of a forest...
