Wake up !

Description

JOHN LEGEND and THE ROOTS bring their musical talents together on an unprecedented project: One of the leading artists of the Soul scene and the essential group The Roots deliver an innovative project, Wake up! A project totally inspired by the SOUL of the 60s and 70s, a conscious and committed project - which indeed challenges the public and chants WAKE UP! Inspired by the climate of optimism and the desire for change that prevailed in the United States during the 2008 presidential campaign, singer John Legend and Hip Hop group The Roots felt the need to mark this moment and sought to translate this state of mind into music. Starting from a simple single, the collaboration expanded into a full album, composed of covers of classic Soul songs that represent change and hope. A collection of Soul songs from the 60s and 70s that already pointed out the dysfunctions of American society, adapted to the Legend & The Roots style. The result: an album of 11 deep tracks with Gospel, Rock, Reggae sounds and Hip-Hop influences. The album contains classics like "Wholly Holy" by Marvin Gaye and "Little Ghetto Boy" by Donny Hathaway combined with more niche tracks like "Hard Times" by Baby Huey and the Babysitters and "Hang on in There" by Mike James Kirkland. The album also features an original composition by John Legend "Shine" which will be the flagship song of the documentary Waiting For Superman by director Davis Guggenheim (Oscar for Best Documentary and Best Song for a Documentary in 2007 for the documentary An Inconvenient Truth), "Waiting For Superman" which will be released in September 2010 in the USA addresses the theme of education in the USA and will reveal the disparities and inequalities that exist today. "Shine" a kind of "Stevie Wonder meets gospel" clearly demonstrates the magic and strengths of this group of musicians. Wake up! mixes John Legend's unique and expressive vocal interpretation with that funky element that only The Roots have the secret to. John Legend & The Roots an inspiring union, so logical that it is quite surprising that there has never been a collaboration before. John Legend: an essential artist, holder of 6 Grammy awards, who has sold over 8 million albums worldwide and has collaborated with renowned artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and the Black Eyed Peas. The Roots: a versatile group - already have 9 critically acclaimed albums to their credit, they are the group that has redefined the relationship between Hip Hop and LIVE orchestration.
