The Hamburg of the 18th century - one of the most attractive and fashionable cultural centers of the baroque era - nurtured artists and virtuosos such as Georg Philipp Telemann, Georg Friedrich Händel, and Johannes Mattheson (1681-1764). A remarkable figure in Hamburg life, he was a man of many talents: opera singer, diplomat, fencing master, organist, theorist, translator. Despite the enormous production of his operas, lost during the Second World War, Johannes Mattheson will only be remembered as an emblematic (reference) theorist of the time.
Designed in 1717, the collection of Sonatas for flute or violin and continuo Der Brauchbare Virtuoso immerses us in a world of music with a personal language, oscillating between sensuality, rhetorical emotion, and mathematical construction of its proportions. In our version, the solo instruments proposed by the composer meet, creating a particular conversation with a continuo that becomes the protagonist.
