Des pas sous la neige

Description

Joël Grare, percussionist and tireless seeker of sounds and rare instruments, presents his third album with Alph: "Footsteps in the Snow, First Sounds of Innocence, Cowbells and Jingles, Captured by the Mountain".... Throughout his compositions and inspirations (Debussy, Bartók), he navigates through his emotions with his incredible instruments: Drums, balafon, melodica are joined by Japanese drums and other sanza, cowbells, toupins, trompiki, rain stick, thunder plate.... as well as his famous clavicloche: "On a January afternoon in 1986, I went to Devouassoud in Chamonix, a maker of clarines and bells that adorn the necks of animals and fill the mountain with their jingles (...) I integrated his bells into my drum set. Without imagining that these newcomers, suspended among my cymbals, would over the years become a fully-fledged instrument. It should be noted that unlike church bells, which have very strict tuning specifications, the tuning of cowbells is quite relative. A few notes are enough to locate the herd; we then refer to the low ones as 'sourdes' and the high ones as 'claires.' When you seek to achieve a tuned set, out of several hundred tested bells, few are chosen... creating a chromatic set of 3 and a half octaves took me a good twenty years!" Joël Grare
