A Day with Suzanne. A Tribute to Leonard Cohen

Description

"A Day with Suzanne" is a unique tribute to the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. American double bassist and lutenist Joel Frederiksen blends Cohen's famous songs such as "Suzanne," "Hallelujah," and "A Thousand Kisses Deep" with songs from the French Renaissance by composers like Josquin des Préz, De Phoenix, Orlando di Lasso, and more. All the songs are performed with period instruments by excellent musicians in a small ensemble. The pieces alternate between poetic songs of the French Renaissance and Cohen's songs, beautifully sung solo by Joel Frederiksen or in duet with Emma-Lisa Roux. Joel Frederiksen and his ensemble demonstrate that the eras, with their themes of love and loss, are not so musically distant.
