After the hard rock riffs of ‘Molly-O’, Joe clearly draws inspiration from Tom Waits on ‘Pick Up The Pieces’. From the guitarist's perspective, ‘Self-Inflicted Wounds’ is undoubtedly one of the best songs he has ever written, and ‘Deep In The Blues Again’ has a rhythm that makes you want to listen to it endlessly. On ‘The Ghost of Macon Jones’, Joe shares vocals with country singer Jamey Johnson. Together, they tell the story of a renegade farmer. Then comes ‘Just Cos You Can Don’t Mean You Should’, directly inspired by the blues rock of Albert King, followed by holding your breath on ‘Stronger Now In Broken Places’, performed with nothing more than an acoustic guitar set against sounds created by Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil and the handpan of Kate Ston. After this wonderful musical journey, Joe returns to more traditional blues rock on ‘Love is A Gamble.’ The path paved by this “Redemption” moves through shades ranging from light to darkness and into tender depths, filled with emotions. Of course, Bonamassa's supreme and masterful guitar watches over each of these precious moments. But beyond his unmatched prowess as an instrumentalist, throughout this album, it is felt that Joe Bonamassa is driven by an insatiable desire to push things further, both in terms of music and lyrics.
