Joanna Gemma Auguri will release her new album "Hiraeth" on June 28 via Duchess Box Records. Joanna Gemma Auguri is a Berlin-based musician, songwriter, and actress. In the various stages of her solo and group music projects, she incorporates influences from folk, ambient, and avant-garde music. At the age of five, she escaped with her parents from Poland, which was under martial law, and had to learn early what it means to be uprooted. This experience is reflected in her music as an expression of personal sorrow, compassion, but also despair in the face of the state of the world. In 2021, she released her first solo album "11" on her own label Lavender Music. It was primarily characterized by the accordion, zither, and her voice. Her new album "Hiraeth" was recorded at Candy Bomber Studios in Berlin by Ingo Krauss, featuring a large number of musicians. In addition to the choir, double bass, lap steel guitar, drums, cello, horns, various organs and keyboards, her original instruments, the accordion and zither, shine through from time to time. Joanna's voice is unmistakably found above the majestic, almost monumental compositions that, despite their richness, remain basic and delicate. "Hiraeth" is an untranslatable Welsh word that describes the nostalgia for a home, a place, or a feeling that no longer exists or never existed. The album will be released in June 2024 on Duchess Box from Berlin.
