2019 marks the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt's death! The painter's (1606-1669) affinity for music is the inspiration for this CD, featuring harpsichord pieces that Rembrandt might have listened to or, for some tunes, certainly appreciated. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where most of Rembrandt's essential paintings are displayed, is the location of this recording on the last existing harpsichord by Petrus Joannes Couchet (1669), which is also part of the museum's collections. Bob van Asperen, a native of Amsterdam, is the ideal performer for this exceptional project. In the booklet, the famous harpsichordist explains everything that connected the painter to the music of his time.
