'Over That Road I'm Bound' is the new album by Joachim Cooder. Strongly inspired by country music, it offers an unexpected and original interpretation of the works of Uncle Dave Macon, a pioneer of the genre, whose 150th anniversary coincides with the album's release. Family is at the heart of this project; both in musical influence and as a theme. His father, Ry Cooder, is among the collaborations featured on this album, along with Sam Gendel and VieuxFarka Touré. The carefully crafted lyrics and banjo melodies are reworked by an atypical instrument, the electric mbira, a variation of the African thumb piano, unique to the artist. Drawing on a vast catalog, Joachim Cooder brings a breath of fresh air to country music with these new arrangements infused with ambient and world music.
