Polished jazz. Refined rock. Sharp funk. All carried by an irresistible groove that surges forward and never lets up. Since its formation in 1969, Soul Media has championed the fusion of jazz and rock. This album, In the Groove, recorded in 1973, marks a new step in that direction. It highlights the precision of jazz, blends in rock to give it an edge, and injects funk to bring power and elasticity. It is strong, sophisticated music, and simply “cool,” impossible to classify within existing genres such as jazz rock, jazz funk, or fusion. This album is also considered a response to The Crusaders, to whom Jiro Inagaki paid close attention at the time.
