Jill Barber returns to her folk roots with her new album, "Homemaker," delivering ten subtly profound songs about the complexities of motherhood, marriage, and the struggle to feel at home in one's own identity. Having spent the last twenty years performing at nearly every folk and jazz festival in Canada and captivating audiences around the world, touring in Japan, Europe, Australia, Mexico, South America, the United States, and the Middle East, it is in recent years that Jill has begun to feel an increasing gap between her public image and the reality of her family life as a weary wife and mother. While her most recent albums have been drenched in lush string arrangements, "Homemaker" strips emotions bare, with a clean production style reminiscent of her acclaimed debut album Oh Heart and her double Juno Award-nominated album, For All Time. Written and recorded in her adopted city of Vancouver, where she lives with her husband and two children, Homemaker is the first album where Jill takes on the role of producer, co-producing with Erik Neilsen, and features some of Vancouver's top session musicians. "Homemaker is an intentional resistance to the worn idea of what it means to be 'just a homemaker.' It is a statement about the humility and strength required to do the meaningful work of creating a home for others while making space for one's own dreams."
