Description

The opera Cassandra speaks of what awaits us when there is nothing we can do to prevent it, of the imminent disaster we sense without being heard. It is about the present. Two of the main characters, prophets in their time, are the heralds of the world to come. Cassandra, daughter of King Priam of Troy, warns against the fate awaiting her people during the Trojan War. Her warnings go unheeded and the known world comes to an end. Sandra, a young climatologist, has turned to the language of comedy to communicate the results of her research on climate change and global warming, in vain. In the end, the two meet: Cassandra from time immemorial, Sandra grappling with the complexities of the present-day world. Perhaps it will be Cassandra’s turn to make Sandra laugh…
