Bad Wiring

Description

For years, Jeffrey has received praise from the press and other artists – from David Berman (Silver Jews) to Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), Will Oldham… and this new album explains why. In the indie rock scene, there is no force equal to Jeffrey Lewis. Primarily known for his writing talents (and his illustration skills in comics), Jeffrey Lewis's secret weapon has been his slow evolution from DIY folk in the late '90s to today’s incendiary indie-rock live sensation. The new band name, The Voltage, is a bit of a sleight of hand as the musicians – Mem Pahl (on bass) and Brent Cole (on drums – also from the Moldy Peaches) – are the ones who have been touring with him around the world for four years, under the name Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts. But Jeffrey continues his tradition of using a new band name for each album. The album was recorded and produced in Nashville by Roger Moutenot, the man responsible for producing all the classics of Yo La Tengo. "The fact that it was in Nashville was purely accidental; we would have traveled anywhere to record with him. Now when people find out we made our album in Nashville, everyone is like, 'Oh, I guess it’s your country album...'" With infinitely creative musical variety and writing sharper than ever, Bad Wiring could be Jeffrey's best album in 18 years of his career.
