Heirloom
Description
This third album by Gabriel Kahane for Nonesuch is a piano concerto, written by Gabriel himself for his father, the pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane. Through this three-movement family album, Gabriel explores a series of inheritances. He questions the transmission of emotions between generations and the legacy of our ancestors. A musician caught between two traditions, Gabriel attempts to deliver his singer-songwriter art within the formal framework of the concert hall in these recordings. The work was commissioned by Linda and (the late) Stuart Nelson, with support from the Kansas City Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Brooklyn orchestral collective The Knights, who also perform on the album. According to Gabriel Kahane, "Heirloom is a sonic family album, exploring, in three movements, a series of inheritances." The album also includes "Where are the Arms," the title track from Kahane's second LP, heard here in a new orchestral arrangement performed by Gabriel Kahane (vocals, guitar, electronics) with The Knights.Buy Heirloom at the best price
