Proposed by Frémeaux & Associés and Forêts et Campagnes d’Avenir, in partnership with the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds), this 4 CD box set brings together the bird songs of Europe captured and recorded by the audionaturalist Jean C. Roché, which are closest to human monophonic music, up to contemporary classical music. These songs reflect an incredible variety of melodies, rhythms, and timbres, which, like the proto-languages of primates, can be considered the proto-music of humans. A CD of an interview, conducted by Bernard Fort, founder of GMVL, complements this collection. In it, we hear Jean C. Roché discuss his fascinating exchanges and reflections with the composer Olivier Messiaen on the music of birds.
