My Days In Copenhagen

Description

After his sensual 'My Little Italy', Jean-Pierre Como travels across Europe and unveils his new project 'My Days in Copenhagen', featuring a Franco-Danish trio of rare elegance. For a long time, Jean-Pierre Como has wanted to encounter Scandinavian jazz, a jazz that is familiar to him, that speaks to him, akin to artists such as Palle Mikkelborg, Jan Garbarek, Jan Johansson, Bobo Stenson... The undeniable similarity that exists between French and Italian jazz, which is so dear to Jean-Pierre Como, and Scandinavian jazz is this shared taste among all these artists for melody, and thus a 'jazz' that is primarily singing and enchanting. A new trio is first and foremost a marriage of three. To make such a meeting happen, a matchmaker was needed. Hans Barfod, the artistic director of the Næstved jazz club, who has been following Jean-Pierre Como's work for years, agreed to take on this role, then inviting the pianist to come to Denmark to introduce him to Scandinavian musicians. After various proposals and listening sessions, Jean-Pierre Como expressed the desire to attempt a musical meeting with double bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk and drummer Niclas Campagnol. A true trio was soon to be born. An internationally acclaimed double bassist, influenced by both Scandinavian melancholy and American tradition, Thomas Fonnesbæk is an inspired musician distinguished by his keen sense of rhythm, harmony, and melody. A free spirit, drummer Niclas Campagnol is a creative and poetic musician. A rhythm virtuoso, he has no equal in blending the timbres of his drums into the musical discourse of his partners. For Jean-Pierre Como, recording with these two musicians became an obvious choice. Back in Paris, exchanges were frequent, and Jean-Pierre proposed to Thomas Fonnesbæk and Niclas Campagnol to meet a year later in Copenhagen around this album now titled 'My Days in Copenhagen', whose repertoire consists mainly of jazz standards. The choice of this repertoire does not stem from ease but rather from a decision made by the three protagonists in that these standards now belong to the common heritage of the jazz universe, regardless of the nationality of the performer.
