Jean-Michel Bernard is a unique pianist and composer who has carved out a place for himself at the crossroads of genres. Classically trained at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux and the École Normale de Musique in France, Jean-Michel Bernard quickly expanded his activity into jazz, collaborating with Eddie Davis, Guy Laffite, Jimmy Woode, Dizzy Gillespie and Ray Brown. He met Ray Charles (who called him a "genius") in 2000, accompanying him on a world tour as part of his quartet, while also serving as conductor and arranger. But it was in film and television that he found his place. In 40 years, Jean-Michel Bernard has worked on over 200 films, series and documentaries and has been the musical director of numerous popular television and radio shows in France. A long-time collaborator of director Michel Gondry, he has worked with Martin Scorsese, Claude Chabrol, Francis Lai, Fanny Ardant, Philippe Sarde, Francis Veber and many others. He has also arranged music by Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin, who once said that his "genius was beyond words".
