Description

Born in 1959 in New York, Antony Girard trained at the CNSM in Paris and at the University of Sorbonne. Poetry and mysticism freely permeate his tonal-modal language, from which a musical sensitivity that loves the ineffable emerges. Rooted in the legacy of works by Fauré, Debussy, and Ravel, his compositions benefited during the 1980s and 1990s from diverse influences ranging from Gregorian chant, medieval polyphony, and traditional Indian music to certain minimalist works. These affinities have faded over time, but they fostered the evolution of his language, which has primarily renewed itself through the reading of mystical and poetic texts, in response to an incessant spiritual quest. The works in this program, mainly centered around the piano and clarinet, extend and complement those of the CD Effleurer le silence, featuring the same preferred interpreters.
