Description

After various discographic achievements with large groups of musicians, Jean-Loup Longnon has finally taken on the QUINTET, attempting to express himself a bit more as an instrumentalist. Jean-Loup's project revolves around a repertoire for five, occasionally enhanced by unexpected events such as guest soloists. However, although the current team has aimed for a sound density similar to that of a big band, on three of the tracks he could not resist the temptation to add ample string or brass sections as invitations to travel. With the exception of two "binary" themes, the style remains resolutely oriented towards the "mainstream jazz" tradition. The original compositions reflect this, as do the standards, but with a constant desire for transformation and harmonic revisitation, presenting each of them in a new light, such as the famous sirtaki "Les enfants du Pirée," which is treated this time in a Brazilian style, an exercise that, like the onomatopoeic discourse "The speech," will surely win the favor of a wide and diverse audience.
