Transcriptions pour deux pianistes

Description

Jean Efflam Bavouzet and François Frédéric Guy have chosen three orchestral works that share the common point of having been created in the year 1913. For Les Jeux by Debussy, the transcription is by Bavouzet himself. It is much more than a simple rewriting: not only does the technique of trills and tremolos require maintaining chords with vigor, but the distribution of the parts organized by Bavouzet allows the melodies and accents to jump from one keyboard to another with a vitality that gives a thrill. Next are Les Deux Tableaux by Bartok, a work for which the transcriber Zoltan Kocsis focused on faithfully reproducing Bartok's colors and his grounding in traditional rhythms, despite a general tendency of the work being heavily inspired by Debussy. This piece therefore offers a perfect transition to the thunders and fury that emerge from this transcription of The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky in which Bavouzet and Guy literally explode in a virtuosic trance perfectly suited to this telluric work.
