"Jeu de Dames, la libération des femmes," a film by director Christian Lara, stars Georges de Caunes, Antoine de Caunes' father, in the lead role. It's just another B-movie, a vaguely subversive charming film that no one remembers. Yet, "Jeu de Dames," without being an erotic film, is suggestive enough to have its distribution license in the traditional circuit rejected. The unscrupulous producer, anxious to salvage his investments, then decided to re-edit the film to screen it in X-rated cinemas. He re-titled the film with the more salacious "Sex Revolution" and inserted harder scenes to attract fans of the genre. The revisited script leaves no doubt about its content: ANIK loves women, in this case MURIEL. NORA has an exaggerated sexual appetite. Only FRANCE seems normal. Still a virgin, she resists her fiancé's advances. All four are stunning cover girls. They arrive on an island to do an advertising report on motorcycles, accompanied by Georges de Caunes, one of his firm's most brilliant prospects. But he is also the son of a writer well-known for his anti-feminist novels. So, imagine their disappointment when the writer suddenly appears one morning. Forced to abandon his report for an important race, Arnaud thus delivers his companions to his father (excerpt from the press kit for 'Sex Revolution'). If Antoine de Caunes' father is no longer credited on the poster or in the credits of 'Sex Revolution,' he unwittingly found himself promoted to the lead actor of a pornographic film, much to the delight of his son Antoine, who, 50 years later, dreams of finally seeing this forgotten masterpiece of the 7th art. - - The film is dreadful, but on the other hand, Jan Claudric's music is particularly inspired and offers one of the best French Jazz-funk soundtracks that would not be ashamed to be compared with the best of the genre, such as Michel Legrand's 'Un homme est mort' or Jean-Pierre Mirouze's 'Le mariage collectif,' previously released by Born Bad.
