The second album by Japanese Breakfast, Soft Sounds from Another Planet, follows the critically acclaimed debut album by artist Michelle Zauner. This new effort is a work of self-reflection where the singer gets lost in the cosmos in search of answers to her questions, drawing inspiration from science fiction, the stratosphere, and the Mars One mission, which aims to send everyone to Mars. In the instrumental track ‘Planetary Ambience’, the synthesizers communicate like extraterrestrials, while in the single ‘Machinist’ - which Zauner has been performing live for a year now - the sci-fi relationship between a woman and a machine is told. An album where the singer escapes from reality, sometimes fraught with challenges, through a fantastic and imagined universe.
