"Selected pieces from Richard Wagner's operas transposed for harmonium and piano..." - this is the title that Sigfrid Karg-Elert gave in 1914 to his collection of 30 arrangements for a rather unusual duo distribution today. As early as 1909, the renowned C.F. Peters publishing house in Leipzig had proposed to the harmonium specialist Karg-Elert to arrange all (!) of Wagner's operas for solo harmonium, for harmonium and piano duo, and for other ensembles with harmonium. Two years had initially been planned for this titanic work.
