Jamie Smith, or more commonly Jamie xx, is finally releasing his first solo album, In Colour. The young producer, aged 25, is no stranger to the game; he had previously collaborated with Gil Scott Heron on an ambitious remix project in 2011, titled We're new here. An album that propelled him into the spotlight, an irony of fate for the most reserved member of The xx. Since then, Jamie has remixed Adele, Florence and The Machine and Radiohead, collaborated with Drake and Alicia Keys, and released a few EPs including the excellent Far Nearer. Jamie Smith is a passionate, prolific artist constantly hungry to create; it was thus that he took advantage of a break after an intensive tour with The xx to finish demos developed over the past six years. In Colour is the result of this hard work, and on this album Jamie xx succeeds in keeping his own identity while riding various currents (rave, house, hip-hop, tropical). Note the presence of The xx on three tracks, two performed by Romy (SeeSaw and the first single Loud Places) and one by Oliver (Stranger in A room), as well as the in-demand rapper Young Thug on the infectious I Know There's Gonna Be A Good Time. Without a doubt, Jamie xx has delivered here one of the great records of the year, enough to keep us waiting until The xx's new album, due in 2016!
