Si Dvorák, for his 6th Symphony, clearly drew inspiration from the Symphony No. 2 of his friend and patron Johannes Brahms, he convincingly highlights, in the central movements, the Slavic tradition. The Suite Op. 98, a commissioned work by Dvorák - then director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York - is an exotic patchwork of Indian and African-American music... with accents of Bohemia. It was much later nicknamed the "American Suite."
