James Ehnes for the first time in the greatest violin concertos of the baroque period. For this new recording with ONYX, the violinist James Ehnes took two risks. First of all on the repertoire: he leaves the music of the 19th and 20th centuries to tackle three of the greatest composers for the violin of the baroque era, Tartini, Leclair, and of course, Vivaldi. Tartini's Devil's Trill (in the arrangement by Fritz Kreisler), Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and Leclair's third Tambourin Sonata, here is a delightful program from an accomplished virtuoso. The second risk of James Ehnes is to conduct himself from the violin the Sydney Symphony chosen to accompany this project. A great success, Mr. Ehnes!
