Recorded at the famous Avatar Studio in New York ten years ago, Taking Turns features Danish guitarist Jakob Bro surrounded by an intergenerational ensemble of major improvisers with particularly distinctive styles. In this session, Lee Konitz, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, and Thomas Morgan combine their energies in a way that skillfully avoids all the pitfalls typical of "all-star" bands and truly focuses on teamwork. The unique way Bro's music generates spaces has likely encouraged the group to imagine new ways of coming together — an atmospheric touch or a fragment of melody collectively opening up new avenues to explore.
