One of the most famous (and rarest) records of its decade, released on the International Anthem label. These vinyls will be presented with new liner notes, new booklets, and the 2025 version of their iconic logo, the obi and the dome. Released in fall 2019, FLY or DIE II: bird dogs of paradise by Jaimie Branch was one of the most anticipated albums of its time. After the success of her first Fly or Die, the trumpeter took her quartet - Chad Taylor (drums), Jason Ajemian (bass), and newcomer Lester St. Louis (cello) - on a European tour in November 2018. Over the course of the concerts, the group pushed its developing repertoire to its limits, improvising deconstructively and transforming their collective playing into a four-voice machine of sonic liberation. This period also marked a tightening of ties between Branch and the International Anthem label, particularly in London, where the album was recorded both in the studio (Total Refreshment Centre) and live (Café OTO). St. Louis's arrival breathed new life into the group: his exchanges with Ajemian renewed the rhythmic tension and string texture, offering Branch fertile ground to experiment and push the boundaries of her instrument. bird dogs of paradise thus captures a pivotal moment in the evolution of her ensemble, crystallizing a unique, free, and daring sound at the crossroads of contemporary jazz and limitless improvisation.
