Pièces de lut

Description

The "Pièces de lut," published in 1682 and 1702 under the name of Jacque Bittner, are certainly among the most well-known engravings of music for lute with 11 choirs in German-speaking regions, but this music has rarely been recorded and seldom heard in concert. From a stylistic point of view, these are suites of dances inspired by the French style, each suite being preceded by an unmeasured prelude, also according to the French tradition.
After his solo album of French lute suites by the French composer François Dufaut released in 2017, the lutenist André Henrich, based in Paris, presents his second solo recording. The program again includes lute suites from the 17th century in the best French tradition: a selection from the very rarely heard collection published under the title "Pièces de lut" by the probably Austro-Bohemian composer Jacob Büttner, whose name later appears as Jacque Bittner.
