Souvenirs de Monte-Carlo

Description

This recital presented by Jean-François Borras celebrates the fascinating history of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, where French music resonated more than any other repertoire. The tenor, trained at the choir school of Monte-Carlo Cathedral and an internationally renowned ambassador of French song, invites us to discover scores by Mascagni, Gunsbourg, or Massenet written for the Monegasque institution. The name of Raoul Gunsbourg is associated with the Opéra de Monte Carlo, built in 1878 by architect Garnier, because he was its director from 1893 and gave it exceptional brilliance through the variety of its programming. With the support of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and conductor Pierre Dumoussaud – a revelation at the 2022 Victoires de la Musique and a great specialist in the operatic repertoire – he also performs key works from the repertoire, most of which he has sung brilliantly on stage: Roméo et Juliette (Gounod), Manon, Hérodiade, Werther (Massenet), Carmen (Bizet), Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach), all performed on the famous Rock.
