Description

Born in Haifa, Israel, but based in Paris for most of his life, Ivry Gitlis is a legend among violinists. Born in 1922, Gitlis is one of the outstanding musicians of the 20th century and, even today, occasionally gives concerts and lessons. We could call him the György Cziffra of the violin - a man possessing a delicate, passionate and spontaneous style of playing, and whose recordings and concert performances cover almost the entire classical, romantic and contemporary repertoire; a cosmopolitan who has collaborated with many eminent musicians - Leonard Bernstein, Martha Argerich, George Szell and Hans Rosbaud, to name but a few.
