Gilles Macassar, Télérama April 24, 2013 After a first attempt that was a masterstroke, the duo Ismaël Margain and Guillaume Bellom returns for a new album, dedicated to Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is the pioneer of four-hand piano composition. In his youth, he wrote several works of the genre that he played with his sister Nannerl during their many tours. The three scores of this program were composed between 1786 and 1787 in Vienna. The young virtuoso was then leaving his career as a pianist to devote himself to writing operas, stimulated by his meeting with Lorenzo Da Ponte. The Sonata in F major KV 497 was conceived four months after Le nozze di Figaro and precedes by four months the creation of the Andante and variations KV 501. The copy of the Sonata KV 521 was submitted in May 1787, six months before Don Giovanni, at the full maturity of the composer. It is his very last sonata for four-hand piano. The interpretation by Ismaël Margain and Guillaume Bellom demonstrates a great understanding of Mozartian art in the youthful fervor of their forty years together!
