Born in Prague in 1979, composer, conductor, and choir director Ondrej Adamek, who studied in his hometown and in Paris, has already won numerous awards for his orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electro-acoustic music. Through his musical language, which repetitively incorporates elements from distant cultures, he creates original musical narratives. He seeks to make his interpretations authentic by combining voice and movement, gestures and theatricality, phonetics and semantic aspects, along with instruments specifically developed by himself. In Follow me by Adamek, a three-movement concerto for violin and orchestra, melodies are shared between the soloists and the orchestra according to the lines of the hocket technique from the late Middle Ages, through which the composer aims to connect a single individual with a crowd. Where are You is a 35-minute sound kaleidoscope, dominated by a constant motoric movement—alternating between everyday sounds like the monotonous ticking of a clock and the electrifying sweep of the orchestra—the composer embarks on a quest for the human ("where do we come from and where are we going?") and the divine.
