A bold blend of soul, psychedelic, spaghetti western, disco, gospel, and hip-hop, Into the Blue, the second solo album by multi-instrumentalist Aaron Frazer (of Durand Jones & The Indications), showcases the impressive range of his sonic talents. He retains the unmistakable falsetto and classic songwriting that have made his name, but firmly places Into The Blue in the present, with a hip-hop mentality at the heart of the album, weaving together different genres and production methods to create something new. Into The Blue was conceived, like many other classic records, from a genuine heartbreak. Aaron left Brooklyn for Los Angeles and embarked on a journey that is reflected in the album's themes: grief, loneliness, and the search for healing. Aaron Frazer wrote on every track and played several instruments on the album. The album features moments of grand arrangements, reminiscent of David Axelrod and Ennio Morricone, balanced by a raw side, incorporating iPhone recordings and one-take vocals. For Into the Blue, Aaron Frazer enlisted Grammy-winning Alex Goose as co-producer. Goose is known for his research and collaborations with hip-hop artists such as Freddie Gibbs, Madlib, and Brockhampton. Aaron also experimented with samples for the first time on a record, drawing from unexpected sources like the 90s R&B group Hi-Five. Although Into the Blue was born from heartbreak, Aaron hopes it will leave listeners with a sense of optimism.
