Description

A great prodigy of piano and composition from a young age, Johannes Brahms made a living from his art starting in the 1850s, when he met many musicians who were pivotal in his career: Clara and Robert Schumann, as well as violinists Joseph Joachim and Eduard Reményi, with whom he quickly collaborated. He received encouragement from Liszt and Berlioz and mingled throughout his life with many personalities in music, such as Wagner and Dvorak. His works were often well received and brought him a certain level of success. Although he wrote extensively for solo piano and orchestra, Brahms also ventured into chamber music. He published his first Cello Sonata, Op. 38 in 1866. It is in this repertoire that his pieces are the most inspired and sentimental: numerous Lieder, trios, quartets, quintets, and sextets, as well as his sonatas for solo instrument and piano, presented in this box set.
