The genre to which “All There Is” belongs has not yet been invented. But is that really important? Ina Forsman describes her music as cinematic soul. Her songs are influenced by the soul of the 1960s and 1970s. Each track has a drama, threads of intrigue, a palette of colors, a character, and always has a very personal touch.
On her previous albums “Ina Forsman" (2016) and "Been Meaning To Tell You” available from Ruf Records, it was already her exceptional voice that made the difference. On "All There Is", she offers us a true introspection. The lockdown undoubtedly favored this evolution, "Who am I, what am I doing here," she seems to ask us in every song. “I am looking for melodies as moving and organic as possible,” admits Ina Forsman.
“This time I did absolutely everything, as the pandemic really left me no choice. On my previous albums, I left more space for other musicians. This time I produced my own demos, I learned to play the piano, and then I developed the brass and string arrangements. It was a big challenge for me. And then along the way, I finally discovered what kind of music really suited me.”
With “All Is There,” Ina stepped out of her comfort zone while affirming her attachment to soul and old school jazz. The instrumentation, production, and mixing of the album clearly recall the 60s.
