After 5 long years since the last studio album, ACTS OF GOD vigorously demonstrates IMMOLATION’s ability to create fascinating new sounds, while keeping their feet firmly rooted in the old school, namely the New York Death Metal for which the band is so renowned. Relentless and catchy in the purest imaginative tradition of the band, ACTS OF GOD is a unique journey to the end of extremes, heavy, fast, explosive, savage. “We wanted this cover to be much darker; more melancholic and desperate. The music has always been very dark, and much of Kantor’s work had the feeling we wanted; the semi-surreal collision with a classic, almost Renaissance feel,” explains founder and singer/bassist Ross Dolan. “It’s unsettling. It really reflects the music perfectly,” agrees founder and guitarist Robert Vigna. The album’s third track, “The Age Of No Light,” is a powerful and striking song with a melody that is both extreme and catchy. “It’s fast, it hits hard and it gets straight to the point,” says Vigna. Constantly changing speed and patterns, the song is short but remains both dynamic and memorable. “Blooded” has all the usual Immolation elements: slowness, speed, explosiveness, large layered sections of groovy harmony eventually falling into diabolical and tearing guitar work. “It’s a little powerhouse,” Vigna describes, “it’s simple and it contains all the elements you expect from us in a nice, neat package.”
