Description

After addressing themes of femininity, racism, and activism on ASH (2017), as well as those of lineage, death, and their origins on their self-titled album (2015), Spell 31 sees the Ibeyi twins delve into their own spirituality and seek to reconnect with their ancestors. Recorded during 2021 in London, the group's third album consists of ten tracks written and composed by Ibeyi, produced with the help of their long-time collaborator Richard Russell, and featuring contributions from Jorja Smith, Pa Salieu, and BERWYN. This new release sees Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi affirm their unique musical identity resulting from the captivating blend of Yoruba music with modern jazz, pop, electronic, soul, and hip-hop.
