The sequel to the 1972 album “Thick As A Brick,” imagined by Ian Anderson. Prog rock? Prog rock? In 2012? Are you serious? Well, actually, yes. Even if we’d rather use the term progressive rock. “TAAB 2,” recorded in November 2011 with Florian Opahle (guitar), John O'Hara (keyboards), David Goodier (bass) and Scott Hammond (drums), emerged from this somewhat confusing concept. Musically, Ian Anderson deliberately echoed the 1972 album by using the same instruments, including acoustic guitars and a Hammond organ, and by making it a point for the band to play together, live in the studio, without overusing re-recordings, without using limiters, noise gates or other modern tricks, and by letting engineer Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) twiddle the knobs himself. And even though it includes indexes, it is a single uninterrupted fifty-three-minute piece of music.
