Monteverdi : the other vespers

Nowadays, when one mentions Vespers music, one instinctively thinks of Monteverdi's 'Vespro della Beata Vergine'. To celebrate the 450th anniversary of the composer, the British vocal ensemble I Fagiolini wanted to highlight a selection of other Vespers, dating from the end of his life. The arrangement of the sacred choral pieces composed by Monteverdi alongside music by his contemporaries projects a work as it might have been presented and performed in Venice at the time of Monteverdi. The ensemble is conducted by Robert Hollingworth, a true specialist of the composer.
