Fantastic album by pianist Horace Parlan - and one of his best for Blue Note - The album was first recorded in 1963, but then shelved for years - only being released on a double album by Booker Ervin in the late 70s, before finally coming out of oblivion in 1986! Why Blue Note waited so long is a mystery, because the album is a gem all the way through - This album is almost more important, and more modern than any other work by Parlan for the label. Booker Ervin leads the front line on tenor, alongside Johnny Coles on trumpet, Grant Green on guitar, and the rhythm section is Butch Warren and Billy Higgins. Parlan's choice of compositions is fantastic - with a number of African-inspired tracks that feature unique rhythmic patterns that really push the soloists to their best! Titles include "A Tune For Richard", "Dexi", "Home Is Africa", "Kucheza Blues", and "Back From The Gig".
