Death-surf Mexican, digital psychobilly, dark disco goth, rock... The style of the Danish trio Hola Ghost has been described as a mix of all this and much more. And for good reason: performing live with bandanas, ballistic belts, sombreros and painted Day of the Dead masks, the trio unapologetically blends genres to create its own dark Scandinavian mariachi rock, inspired by surf music, Mexican folklore, dark disco, psychobilly, B-movies westerns and many other things. The three “gringos from Copenhagen” deliver an energetic performance on albums as well as on stage. The Man They Couldn't Hang... is the second album by Hola Ghost, originally released on vinyl by the band's own label, Hola Pete Records, in 2009 and reissued by Svart Records in 2019. Finally back on the market, the album includes 11 tracks with stories of revolution, bloodthirsty vampires, howling wolves, hatred and love for alligator girls and a whole bunch of other stories delivered with machine-gun drumming and heavy rock'n'roll bass and guitar. Hola Ghost was formed as a duo by Peter Sandorff (ex-Nekromantix and Mad Sin) and his longtime friend Jeppe B. Jessen, to compose the soundtrack for the first film by Los Angeles artist Gris Grimly, “Cannibal Flesh Riot”. They bought a haunted drum machine from a Los Angeles pawn shop, which the owner had won in a tequila-soaked poker game in Tijuana, Mexico. While working on the soundtrack, the rhythms began to take on color thanks to the machine's Mexican origin. This Mexican influence became the band's trademark for its two studio albums and its concerts in Europe, the United States and South America. After replacing the drum machine, the new drummer Kristian Sandorff brilliantly carries on the tradition on stage, as well as on the band's albums from 2014 onward. Side A : Hola Ghost
