Funeral sentences - Hail bright Caecilia

Description

This double album brings together two major recordings that Philippe Herreweghe devoted to Purcell’s music: with the Funeral Sentences and other full and verse anthems (Jan. 1993), the first “illuminates Purcell’s sacred art” and “highlights his profound theological thought” (Opéra international). Five years later, the maestro called on his virtuosos from the Collegium Vocale de Gand to reveal two very different ways of celebrating an art in which Purcell was the master. Whether with small forces (Welcome to all the pleasures) or in a fireworks display (Hail! Bright Cecilia), it is a true celebration of music. These titles were first released in 1993 (CD 1) and 1998 (CD 2).
